It was Jack's instructor, Jack Grout that believed that all full swing shots should be played with One Basic Swing.
"The Grip, Aiming, Ball Position, the Swing's Arc & Plane, and Swing Tempo should be the same for all full swing shots."— Jack Nicklaus: "GOLF MY WAY (video)"

Effortless, simple, smooth, repeatable swing with a minimum of moving parts.

This swing move pairs up well with the UST V2 shaft for me.  If Jack had that in his prime he would be carrying a 3 wood of the deck 300yds easily.  Of course, Jack had great feel with his feet so he never jumped at the ball even with a huge arc.  He had an image of standing on ice he used to get maximum timing into the ball.

TheNYgolfer June 20, 2015 - 2:07 pm

for all those who insist Jack is the "BEST EVER" , I wonder if that would be said so emphatically and with such enthusiasm and confidence if Jack was black and Tiger was white 🙂

Simply The best. I love it

lovely to watch he also played with an open club face something to try at range I think he knew things about golf that trackman is teaching now he was ahead of his time fantastic player and more important a great sportsman I think he was the greatest sportsman of the century

Note jacks feet.  He rotated his entire left foot inward and stops it at the the end of his swing. This single action also serves naturally to bend his left knee inward, maximizes his hip turn to the right as well as straiten his right leg at the end of his backswing (creating  a perfect weight shift from left to right.)  At the top of his swing he then rotates his entire right foot inward. This serves to bend his right knee inward,  maximizes  right hip rotation to the left, and; due to his entire body rotating to the left on the down swing; he ends up with is left leg strait, right knee almost touching his left knee; and, his right foot pointing to the grown for the classic follow through look. SO THE ONE AND ONLY SWING THOUGHT ONE NEEDS TO REMEMBER  IS TO ROTATE THE ENTIRE LEFT FOOT INWARD DURING THE BACKSWING AND THE ENTIRE  RIGHT FOOT INWARD ON THE DOWNSWING.  THIS IS THE SECRETS OF THE PROS.

T G June 6, 2016 - 1:55 am

Like Hogan, it is the perfect rhythm. Say "oneee" on the backswing and say "twooo" on the follow through. That's where the consistency comes from.

jakethemuss3 January 19, 2017 - 3:26 pm

Keeps his head still and down through contact. All professional golfers do this.

woodledog February 4, 2017 - 3:49 am

Lifting that left heel and look at the movement of the left knee from backswing to follow-through. The Secret.

tipsy09 March 15, 2017 - 3:34 pm

love the porno music

gmonkey808 March 29, 2017 - 1:23 pm

Jack would compete in any era. One of the sports true athletes. Today his drives would be right up there with Rory and Dustin. Some greats from the past would struggle.

XxgalaxyxX1494 July 20, 2017 - 8:55 pm

At exactly 1:48 this is the position I've been trying to get into and it works.  While rotating back the hip bumps slightly toward the target while his back knee is pointing away from the target.   His back leg is very planted and leads to power.

I'm studying how to improve your golf and discovered a great website at Gavs Golf Tactic (check it out on google)

maple1255 February 19, 2018 - 6:33 am

Jack's swing is so smooth, fluid, graceful

Cian Reyes March 2, 2018 - 3:08 pm

Not as smooth as Hogan's swing. But Jack still the king of Majors.

Stanley13 April 28, 2018 - 8:43 am

Most boring human being to ever play any sport.

stflat May 16, 2018 - 2:05 pm

love his left foot weight shift action through entire swing.

SearchBucket2 July 4, 2018 - 9:07 am

The essence of Jack's success was he kept the game simple. He played a safe pattern most of his career. He didn't complicate things.
In terms of talent and shot making ability Tiger tops things but when it comes to competing and managing what you have there's been none better than Jack.
Lets not forget, the golf swing is less than half the game.

headlesssoldier July 10, 2018 - 3:19 am

somewhere in this tape he talks about moving to the left on the down swing. It is the single biggest key ive ever come across and I've never heard anyone else mention it. To me, its the difference between a real golf swing and one that comes and goes. I came back to it later in life and it unleashed everything for me. What I believe he meant was that your back left pocket feels like it travels straight backwards initially. So the move to the left is left of the target, and not towards the target. Its genius. You get out of the way without spinning. It prevents you from falling forward. You'll clear like crazy and have a ton of room to come into the ball. You can see his weight on his left leg go way out to the outside of his foot. To me its the cure all that achieves the bump, keeps posture, transfers weight, etc

wreckim October 23, 2018 - 3:30 am

At times, Jack and Tom Watson's swings look very similar. Can't go wrong with either one. Perhaps it was a sign of the times; like chord progression with music etc..

Brandon Wood May 17, 2019 - 3:11 am

If only it was that easy

Brian Reilly May 21, 2019 - 5:11 pm

all shots off left heel lovely slow rhythm best ever

Happy Hamster April 22, 2020 - 2:23 pm

Jack has such a natural, smooth and fluid swing, grace in motion

Johnny Parker September 9, 2020 - 2:13 pm

Ok no problem, This shouldn't take long to verify. Go to range balls still slice 150 yards into woods. Uh wait a minute I must have missed something… Oh yeah piano music. 😡

Bill Bright October 30, 2020 - 3:18 am

I watched these videos over and over when I was a kid. Read all his books. I'm 51 now and I finally get it. I love Jack Nicklaus that Sunday back nine at Augusta in 86 was the best day of my life.

Michael McKay April 6, 2021 - 11:44 pm

Poetry in motion

Oldag75 June 29, 2021 - 10:31 pm

Jack is the greatest ever, vis-a-vis swing mechanics. Tiger, great himself, sorta lurches at the ball.
