Have You Ever Seen This In Rory’s Swing? 🤯

Shaft alignment influences club path ⬇️

Before you wig out – I know, I know. There are no absolutes in golf. This was simply a fascinating video as I played it back and wanted to share my thoughts.

In my opinion, across the line swings can get a bad reputation. The world golf hall of fame is full of swings slightly across the line!

What’s most important here is the movement of the shaft. Rory gets the club shallowing nicely in transition and as a result, the “amount” the club crosses the line also happens to be close to the “amount” the clubhead falls behind the hands here at the 2nd freeze frame. Take that with a grain of salt, because the camera angle isn’t perfect either.

But…that’s not always the case. The actual movement of the shaft can end up being more important than its alignment at the top. We saw Akshay win last week and he has the shaft laid off at the top, and the club still falls behind his hands at the 2nd freeze frame position.

In summary: there is nothing suggesting those lines are typically parallel. More or less I just thought this was interesting 🧐
