This drill is a sure way to help you hit ball before turf (mat on this occasion)
.
I have posted a few similar ways of doing this like with spray when on grass and even that green mat thing which marks where you come through but I think this is the best way of achieving the end goal

You can place the tape as close as you like to the ball with of course the closer to it the harder it will be but the better you will compress the ball if done correctly
.
If you hit the ball first then the tape will be left untouched, however if you don’t hit the ball first then the tape is going to come off the mat
.
Masking tape as I used is actually really good at sticking to range mats and is pretty inexpensive so it works really well all round
.
I normally hit just a fraction before the ball as I throw my hands through impact a lot of the time but this shot I hit here was one of the best feeling shots that I’ve ever hit which is a sure sign that your striking the ball like it’s supposed to and you’ll know straight away!
